Labour has a plan for the Recovery in Gravesham
Labour Parliamentary Candidate, Kathryn Smith, has welcomed the news that Britain is now officially out of recession.
Speaking at a meeting today, Kathryn agreed that it was right for the government to invest to support families and the economy during the difficult global recession. “As a result of Labour’s investment, we have protected jobs, helped families to stay in their own homes and safeguarded small businesses.” she announced.
Only yesterday, David Cameron was pledging to ‘tear up the spending plans announced for 2010’. Kathryn believes such a reckless approach would wreck the recovery and shows how much of a risk the Tories would be to families and businesses in Gravesham.
“Compared to the last Recession when the Tories abandoned people to fend for themselves, Labour investment means that the threat of unemployment has been reduced and is 450,000 lower than experts predicted at the time of the Budget. In Gravesham, unemployment reached 5,574 in 1992 and 2,542 now, which is 54% lower than previous recessions.” she said.
