Children and families better off under Labour

Labour’s promises in government are being delivered to Gravesham families.
Free nursery places are available for every 3 and 4 year old, maternity leave has doubled and 500,000 fathers now enjoy paternity leave.
And the good news continues.
Three New Children’s Centres have been planned in Shears Green, Chantry and Lawn. Consultations are already underway.

Government Record Investment in Schools

Labour has welcomed the Government announcement to provide a massive investment in Gravesham’s schools.

As part of a programme called ‘Building Schools for the Future’, every secondary school in the borough will be rebuilt or renewed over the next ten years.

One of the first schools to benefit from a multi-million-pound transformation will be Northfleet Technology College in Gravesend.

Throughout Gravesham, parents have seen improvements in their youngsters’ GCSE and ‘A’ Level results, together with increased funding for further education.
Affordable Homes for Local Residents

Labour Councillors on Gravesham Borough are defending the rights of residents to affordable housing as the Tories announce plans to begin a massive sell off of Council homes to the private sector. The Tory plans, announced in this year’s budget, will see all empty properties not on an estate being automatically placed into a private auction.

Council tenants who supported the decision to remain with the Council may now find that they have no choice but a transfer to another housing provider. The more individual homes sold by the Council will place at risk the long term strategy of the Council to retain its own housing stock for local people.

Cllr. John Burden, Labour Group Leader has denounced the plans. “Gravesham has a wonderful mix of affordable housing. This decision by the Tories will make it harder for young couples to find a decent home in the area.”

Labour investing in the future.

Labour has been investing record levels of funding for families and children, for schools and education, for our health service and for pensioners.

One of the biggest investment projects is Kent Thameside. £75 million has been invested to regenerate areas around Northfleet and Gravesend, delivering 30,000 new homes and 50,000 new jobs. Projects include integrated transport with the splendid new international station at Ebbsfleet, which from next year will begin commuter services to Central London in just 17 minutes. New Fast Track buses have also been introduced.

Our green spaces have not been neglected either, investment has been made in Shorne Woods Country Park with a new Visitor’s Centre and the renovated Cobham Darnley Museum due to open later this year.
