Gravesham Labour Campaigns Gravesham Labour Party Members have long been involved in campaigning. In the 1990’s we campaigned to save services at Gravesend and North Kent Hospital (GNK). Thanks to a Labour Government; we now have a new facility in our Borough. Most recently we run a successful campaign to stop the sale of Gravesham’s Council Houses and Flats. We issued several leaflets to Council Tenants explaining why they shouldn’t vote to transfer to a Housing Association. Over three quarters agreed with us and voted to stay with the Council. We still believe that Local Authority Housing is best and we work with Defend Council Housing to achieve a fourth option for Council Houses. In 2006 and 2007 Gravesham CLP led the debate on Council Housing at the Labour Party Conference; we are proud to say that we have been instrumental in highlighting the case for the fourth option. We are now involved in talks with Government Ministers on the whole issue of Council Housing. |
